INDIANAPOLIS METALFEST I Set To Unearth Underground Metal
April 25, 2007Monolith Entertainment Group (MEG) planted the underground metal nation's flag into Indiana soil today by announcing the inaugural Indianapolis Metal Fest set for September 22, 2007. The music festival features a growing list of top underground metal bands as well as highly-regarded unsigned bands making for a showcase of 40 bands in all.
"There is only one reason to put on this show," says MEG President Rob Mason. "It will turn the media and industry spotlights on an extremely vibrant underground regional metal scene. This event will bring together the best of the local and the best of the national underground metal scenes."
Unlike many festivals, the Indianapolis Metal Fest is not building on a "pay-to-play" business model. Among other differences, bands will be allowed to sell their merchandise at the event — and keep 100 percent of the proceeds. And with an understanding that there will be a strong role being played by sponsor partners, the return on investment will not be limited to them.
"IMF is all about shining the spotlight on the bands," Mason says. "They will not only play in front of a large capacity crowd, they'll be showcasing for the industry and media, not to mention a few new fans. And it won't cost them a dime."
Indianapolis, the home of the Midwest Music Summit, the 2006 NAMM Summer Session, and Indianapolis Jazz Fest (to name a few),is becoming well known for it's diverse array of great musical talent and sizzling nightlife.
Mason cut his teeth over the last decade not only playing on the Central Indiana metal scene, but also as an organizer of Milwaukee Metalfest. Through those experiences, Mason has been able to build relationships across various metal genres. That variety of underground music will be apparent when the final bill is released.
Already a handful of record labels as well as regional radio stations are on board as sponsor partners, providing some very strong momentum heading into the tail end of spring.
